The city of Manchester is no stranger to the present and adept. Prolific in both meeting to high-standard music opportunities for their equally talented local musicians, the buzzing capital has never been buzzing louder…

…and stripped lo-fi Mancunian collective VALA have truly made the first half of 2022 their own, that’s for sure. After selling out shows in their native hometown aswell as the UK capital, they are on fine form to having an equally sizzling summer this year.

Stepping back from their lo-fi romps of their Radiohead-esque indie alternative that we’ve been treated to so far, a revelation came about when they waned down a different path for their next single.

/ when i wake up /

/ i wanna wake up drowning /

/ i wanna forget how to swim /

/ and push the waves around me /

Swimming’, is an artful compromise as it is a far more sultry, sedative approach to what we expect to hear from VALA – but still plays homage to their signature sound as we heard from their track prior, ‘It’s Alright When You’re Falling.’ Enchanting ‘Eighth Grade’ poolside samples to a fat production sound encompasses another worthy addition to your SUMMER IS HERE playlist for 2022. Don’t forget your trunks this time.

For avid fans of Alvvays and Phoebe Bridgers, get your teeth stuck into more sugary melodies with VALA. The next Manchester music explosion.
