Your Weekly Mixtape #1 (April 17 2022)

Join an eclectic mix of the new and extraordinary in the very best of rock, funk and jazz fusion.

Interpol’s Toni sees their return to music since their Marauder in 2018. While the likes of new-kid-on-the-block lostboy keeps up momentum with lust-for-life Maple and Arcade Fire‘s double header of The Lightning I, II hails a new transcendent chapter for the Montreal collective, Lynks gets an edge in with the numbers with his new EP Men featuring stand-out favourite of Hey Joe (Relax.)

And while we’re all getting to know Self Esteem‘s Prioritise Pleasure and Wet Leg‘s self-titled debut (..more so with that addictive Chaise Lounge song) with repeats for both their respective albums this year for those underground indie-alternatives, what’s new in funk?

While Silk Sonic cleaned up with their An Evening With…, it’s important to also make note of Ibibio Sound Machine, a driving force of pulsating synth-funk greatness with All That You Want springing to mind out of their 2022’s Electricity.

Sampled remixes of MF RobotsGold [plucked from their illustrious 2021 album, Break The Wall] are up for grabs too with mixes Atjazz Love Soul and Nawfside drawn from the melting pot of funk.

Citing stories from his “Chillzone” on the shores of Singapore, Houg is certainly one to watch too with The Biting Tempo’s 7 Ain’t The Tome and Excuse Me (What’s The Time) with a reformed love of processed beats and 80s sax for future music.

Do check out each song individually above via their direct links or have a full walkthrough with its playlist below. As heard on BBC Radio 6 Music.
