A searing panic attack of a debut, three-piece Dubliners Really Good Time make their mark with Affirmations.
A post-Irish punk is always a marvel to study. Tense, angry and egregiously decisive, their first – and biggest – project of Affirmations is an inward-looking trajectory at kind of fresh hell we’ve ended up in this time. Punching walls, screaming into the abyss and driving your car off the cliff are all fitting side quests to do when listening to this record.
For a band that are just starting out, they seem to have found their sound awfully quick. Led by ferocious Do It – in part old-school Kasabian, in part new-school Shame – the album is an utter delight.
The band see themselves supporting Super Furry Animals on their Dublin date before heading South for Brighton’s Mutations Festival (headlined by Fat Dog), Really Good Time intend the ride the tsunami wave of a stellar debut all the way.
