Running from the nautical theme of yesterday, it’s time to decide your worst British artist. Whether it be from something you read in the news, an artist meet-and-greet turned sour, or just overall distaste for the music they create, which artist do you tend to stay clear from?

Whether it be the crude undertaking of glorified simpleton-pop, Coldplay or the work of banjo-playing Mumford & Sons, or simply Liam Gallagher for being a full w*nker, let me know YOUR CHOICES. I promise I won’t judge you too much for your decisions muahaha.

Now, I’m thinking about it for me – this is quite a hard feat to acclompish. Despite them not making the same idealistic music I particularly like, I could never place any British musician under the umbrella as WORST. We just have too many good musicians that do what they do so damn well. But, by all means, try and persuade me …

Haha I like the honesty! Yeah, I feel you. He can get under a lot of people’s skin for his demeanour and traits. But that’s ROCK N ROLL I suppose 😅

I can’t imagine putting any British musician under the heading of worst. Too many good ones. Great question though. You’ve got me thinking 🤔

Haha I started writing; then I thought .. hang on, I second – this is ACTUALLY impossible! There are far two many musicians that are so talented in their own right – regardless if you like what music they create to what genre, you’ve gotta respect it!

Oof, you reckon? It’s a worthy pick, that’s for sure! Why do you think that is? It’s certainly a hard thing to think about, as a lot of British musicians are good at what they do in their own right. But it’s certainly giving me a think with Lily Allen! 🤔🤔

Yeah, exactly. This is what I was saying when I was writing this one up. Not liking someone’s music because it’s not your genre of choice, doesn’t necessarily make it the WORST music or musician. Suppose the worst musician has to fall on how they act, and their persona around fans and fellow artists.

I would agree on Liam as a person, but damn Oasis was awesome!! This is much harder. Is Westlife a British boy band? I would go with them. And I feel I could make an argument for the Sex Pistols, but that might piss a lot of people off.

Yeah that’s true! All those boy bands, Westlife have a persona that’s hideous – suppose they’re music is somewhat hideous too! Cheesy pop. Yeah, that’s certainly a contender- Sex Pistols. Buut, for their sheer strength in the punk scene I don’t think they’d be worthy, and you’d be correct in saying that it would piss a few fair people off haha ~ far more than saying Westlife, for sure!

Ha! Okay, I got one right. I get the Pistols were big on the punk scene, it just doesn’t mean it was great.

Yeah suppose so! You’ve certainly got a point to be fair. They had their own way of going about punk and sometimes their music wasn’t really it. I suppose they were not famous for their persona.

They really only had 1 studio album if I’m not mistaken so it was definitely the attitude and publicity that made them so well known and famous. Plus Johnny was pretty Rotten.

Oh god, he was haha! He still is, if I’m not mistaken. With all these Pistols lawsuits going on, it’s made the band really ugly with it all.

Yeah, I’ve been hearing a lot of talk about this. Certainly seems that way. I’m not one a fan of their music – albeit a couple songs – but you cannot deny their knucklehead reputation that pretty much harnessed the punk scene into what it was – and is – today. It was mega!

Hahar! I’m glad someone said Ed Sheehan … money and fame has made him incredibly hard to like, as he buys our estates for his own capital gain 🤣 – What makes you pick the other artists?

All of them make totally shite sounding music that is totally boring, or has some kind of fake emotional melodrama attached to it that just seems contrived. In the case of Ed Sheerhan I have honestly never heard of more generic and shit sounding music. There is a band in New Zealand called Six60 that create the sane sound as Sheeran. A sugar-sweet formulaic pop music I just want to vomit when I hear it … 🤮🤢

Yeah, it’s certainly mellow pop that just washes over you, dull to the touch and to the ears. It’s sad because Ed Sheeran used to make meaningful, acoustic-sombre music with his debut, but ever since his fame has risen, he’s reproached and gone into this frenzy of chart-indulged drivel that everyone “loves.” I’ll have to share and listen to that Six60 band haha – share your same horror!

ooh interesting! Yeah, you’re certainly not the first to share that view, that’s interesting to me. Someone who grew up, knowing how admired they were within the punk scene – maybe it’s what they stood for more over how they made music and how they shared it? Interesting thoughts, nonetheless. Thank you!

    I love this question!

I’d put Liam Gallagher at the top of the class. I do like some of the Oasis songs. They were not my favourite band of the era though. The voice, that voice! I always found it grating. I get the same argument toward Thom Yorke too.

I had a hard time understanding the popularity of Blur and Robbie Williams. One reason for me despising our local pro hockey team (one of MANY), is that they used to play that awful woo hoo song after each goal. I think Blur did that song about boys who are girls who are boys, or something like that. Were they horrible musicians? I suppose I’m answering yes.

Sex Pistols’ music never did it for me. I understand their importance in music history.

Yeah, I’ve heard that a lot about the Brit-pop acts and I totally understand it. Again, Blur is a tainted group for me that I have to enjoy because I grew up listening to one of their compilation albums that my dad snagged. Girls & Boys song is a tad grating after a while you’re right haha. It’s one of those songs that you don’t play again for at least four or five years 😅

Personally, I love Liam and his whole persona. Not giving a f*ck about what people see of him, how he sounds and how he portrays himself. It’s the whole she-bang of a (wannabe) rockstar – or utter arse – that I’m all for. The likes of John Lennon may have done that before the likes of Liam, but it’s sometimes a sense of fresh air when it comes to rockstars. I know he’s dialled down a wee bit since the ‘90s but you don’t get a lot of individuals like that anymore in rock music.

I totally get Liam’s appeal! The don’t care attitude is totally rock! For me, it boils down to the voice. In my neck of the woods, our media focused way too much on the sibling rivalry, as well as his feuds (made up or not) with the other UK bands. I always thought about the music. The gossip was just noise.
