It’s a sure-fire of getting us on our feet and simply letting go, our flailing arms playing a call-and-response with the weaving global grooves that surround us. The likes of Nubiyan Twist do this better than anyone. Off the back of their scintillating set at this years’ Glastonbury Festival on the Glade stage, we take a look at their May release … Find Your Flame.

Since forming in 2011 at the Leeds College of Music, the nine-piece collective of Nubiyan Twist have become a tour-de-force in the fertile UK scene of nu-funk/jazz. Spurred on by their massive third album, Freedom Fables, the group have known to be in the same orbit with the likes of Ezra Collective and Jordan Rakei.

Throughout the 12-track contraption of Find Your Flame, brings together soul, jazz and world in a vibrant exploration of infectious grooves. We are not just bound to the nine members of the group either, the album is also peppered with legends of the game, Nile Rogers and Seun Kuti who bring their own hallmarks of mastery to the disco dance addiction Lights Out and the funky tropics of Carry Me, led by those undeniable horns. Every player certainly brings a new element, a new foray of style. Afrobeats are affirmed on So Mi Stay while the fast-flurries of You Don’t Know Me bring eclectic jazz to the centre stage.
