During this time of Spring, give something back to your ears in the form of Otala. Spun from south London’s windmill scene (majorly Brixton), come the sprawls of Otala. A post-rock band defined by their genreless soundscape, the four consisting of Oscar Thorpe, Rory Allen, Charlotte Foulkes and Jacob Wing, distill influences of classics Godspeed! and newcomers man/woman/chainsaw to a sound that’s becoming wholly unique to their own, little by little.
The syrupy goodness from their latest EP is one step closer to that. Swirling crescendos and swelling build-ups wade in Better Than The End, a more intimate look into some of the most exciting work exhaling from the scene.
Incorporating a beguiling charm like that of a polaroid snapshot in the park or a wander in the woods, the five-play series is something seriously beautiful. And don’t get me started on the two-parter at the end. Simply magnificent.
Rather fitting, you can catch them at a hometown show at The Grace just outside of Islington come the 2nd of May.
